Bart Deglin (° 1973 Sint-Truiden)

Deglin tekent en schildert mensen en emoties... in vrijwel al zijn werken figureren mensen.  Als zijn geschilderde mensen emotie missen... dan zit die in het werk zelf.  De mensen figureren even vaak in de emoties als omgekeerd.

Niet alleen papier of doek maar ook hardcovers van oude boeken vormen de ideale dragers van deze bevreemdende taferelen en/of intrigerende poses.

Alhoewel er een zekere duisternis over zijn oeuvre hangt, kan je het toch ook moeilijk donker noemen, ja soms word je er zelfs een beetje vrolijk van. Als hij kleur gebruikt is het ingehouden.  Schaal duikt regelmatig op als spel.

Met -naast tekeningen en schilderijen- ook boek-covers, platenhoezen en zelfs street-art in zijn portfolio, verwacht je bij Bart niet meteen ruimtelijk werk.

Act XV voor smartlab was dan ook een escapade buiten zijn comfort zone.

Voor de gelegenheid breide hij de reeks ogen van PUBLIC WITNESS (acryl / black & white) uit tot een omvangrijke verzameling in verschillende formaten die zich leent tot een installatie 2.0

PUBLIC WITNESS 2.0 houdt de toeschouwer maar ook zichzelf in het oog …en vice versa. De traagheid van de mobiel plaatst Deglin’s installatie moeiteloos in de traditie van het smartlab-format.

Initieel zou ACT XV deel uitmaken van de DRAWING DAYS 2020 van Kunstwerkt. Eén of andere pandemie verplaatste dit kader echter naar 2021. Aangezien smartlab een corona-proof format avant le virus was, mag en kan deze vreemde tijd Bart Deglin niet tegenhouden.

Deglin draws and paints people and emotions ... people figure in almost all his works. If his painted people lack emotion ... it is in the work itself. People figure in the emotions just as often as vice versa.

Not only paper or canvas but also hardcovers of old books are the ideal carriers of these strange scenes and / or intriguing poses.

Although there is a certain darkness hanging over his oeuvre, you can hardly call it dark, yes sometimes it even makes you a little happy. When he uses color it is restrained. Scale regularly pops up as a game.

With -in addition to drawings and paintings- book covers, record sleeves and even street art in his portfolio, you do not immediately expect three-dimensional work from Bart.

Act XV for smartlab was therefore an escapade outside its comfort zone.

For the occasion, he expanded the range of eyes from PUBLIC WITNESS (acrylic / black & white) into an extensive collection in various formats that lends itself to an installation 2.0

PUBLIC WITNESS 2.0 keeps an eye on the viewer but also himself ... and vice versa. The slowness of the mobile effortlessly places Deglin's installation in the tradition of the smartlab format.


Initially, ACT XV would be part of Kunstwerkt's DRAWING DAYS 2020. However, some pandemic moved this framework to 2021. Since smartlab was a corona-proof format avant le virus, this strange time can not and will not stop Bart Deglin.
