Vladimir Slavov studeerde af aan de Nationale Academie voor Kunsten in Sofia. In Bulgarije verdiende hij zijn sporen als theatervormgever bij een aantal van de meest prominente gezelschappen (met o.a. nominatie vr beste ontwerp in 2008).

Hij vervolgde zijn studies aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerpen -waar hij zijn master's degree behaalde- om vervolgens aan sculpturen, licht en kinetische installaties te werken.
Gedreven door zijn passie voor kunst, functioneel ontwerp en vakmanschap, begon Vladimir in 2013 met DIM atelier. Sindsdien heeft hij zich volledig toegewijd aan exclusieve handgemaakte verlichting. Hij heeft daarbij een punt bereikt waar de perfectie van het object aan obsessie grenst.

Voor smartlab ACT V heeft Vladimir besloten om het over een andere -doch ook vertrouwde- boeg te gooien... met “URBAN DEBRIS” -een in-situ sculpturale lichtinstallatie- wil hij de mogelijkheden verkennen van de residuen van gesloopte gebouwen in en rond Antwerpen.

Hij gebruikt daarbij de ruimte van smartlab als een tijdelijk heiligdom, waar de resten -met behoud van hun ruige & expressieve karakter- opnieuw tot leven komen in een andere context. 

Act V werd -traditiegetrouw middels live streaming- op 26 april 2017 gelanceerd in Z33 tijdens de Traders Open School.

Vladimir Slavov graduated from the National Art Academy in Sofia. After working as a stage designer for several years at some of the most prominent theater companies in Bulgaria, and being nominated for best set design in 2008, Vladimir moved to Antwerp to further his education. He graduated with a master’s degree from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In the following years, he worked on sculptures, light and kinetic installations.

Driven by his passion for art, functional design, and craftsmanship, in 2013 Vladimir started DIM atelier. Since then he has fully devoted himself to making exclusive lighting fixtures – each of which meticulously handcrafted. He has reached a point where the perfection of the object borders with obsession.

For his smartlab project “URBAN DEBRIS”, Vladimir has decided to take a different, and yet familiar tack – to create an in-situ sculptural lighting installation, exploring the possibilities offered by the residuals of local demolished and reconstructed buildings. To use the space of SmartLab as a temporary sanctuary, where the leftovers can once more become functional elements, preserving their rough expressive nature.

The live streaming launch of Act V happened on April 26 at Z33 in the context of Traders Open School.
